Meet your organisational sustainability goals with your merchandise choices
Sustainable supply chain and merchandise
How do you know if a product really does have the sustainable credentials you are looking for?
It all looks environmentally friendly, but how do we check? Look out for the credentials: such as PEFC or FSC. When you’re investigating sustainable gifts for clients and staff find out what the packaging is made from, it’s all very well buying a batch of recycled, ethical travel cups, but if they all come wrapped in plastic bags, padded out with polystyrene, that’s a lot of waste right there that might not be recyclable.
Look out for the SEDEX membership to be reassured that wherever your promotional products are coming from, the working conditions are fair, and manufacturers are operating in an ethically and environmentally friendly way.
Sustainable merchandise jargon busting guide
Here is a quick reference guide of important terms when it comes to knowing what you’re looking at in our catalogue..
RPET: rPET is the most widely used form of recycled polyester, it’s made from used clear plastic bottles instead of raw petrochemicals.
FSC: the product is made using a mixture of materials from FSC-certified forests, recycled materials, and/or FSC controlled wood. More than 200 million hectares of FSC-certified forests are managed to environmental, social and economic standards.
ABS: these plastics are 100% recyclable.
GRS: in their own words is; “an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions.”
PEFC: reassures us that wood, paper, packaging used and products themselves are from sustainably managed forests, recycled and controlled sources.
